Throwing it back to July 1st, 1995—just weeks after Thunder Road Café opened its doors, our biker-themed restaurant wasn't just roaring with rock 'n' roll but also with a powerful mission.
The inaugural “Bikers for Breast Cancer” run launched from our doors on Fleet Street, uniting Harley Hogs, rockers, and local celebs for a ride to remember.
More than just a parade of Fat Boys, Bad Boys, and Easy Glides, this event symbolised the heart of Thunder Road Café—where a passion for bikes and a love for community collided for a greater cause. The turnout was epic, from Mutual of America's President flying in from New York to bikers who had been prepping for weeks. And of course, our founding “Paddys” – Shovlin and Gallagher – led the pack!
As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this year, we’re looking back at these unforgettable moments that helped shape the Thunder Road Café legacy. Whether you were part of the ride or hearing about it for the first time, we’d love to hear your memories—drop them in the comments below!

Big Gun's Hog Run
Irish Independent Weekender, Saturday July 1, 1995

IT SEEMS totally appropriate that the cool dudes who regularly take their babies for a burn should do so on July 1 for the International Breast Cancer Foundation of Ireland. The Bikers for Breast Cancer Inaugural Run from the new Thunder Road Cafe in Temple Bar to Brian Brennan's Arklow Bay Hotel is already attracting interest from bikers all over the country.
Of course the Harley Hogs will be out in full force with their Fat Boys, Bad Boys and Easy Glides. I can now understand the whole Harley "thing" is so much better.
These bikes are a real thing of beauty, and so a joy forever ..... serious toys for big boys. And you know what they say, he with the most toys wins.
Rearing for an open road, at the launch on Wednesday morning, was Mutual of America President Tom Moran, who had flown in form New York a few hours earlier. Ed Kenny and Pat Byrne, both from Mutual, hot off the 104, were also on hand to check out the bikes.
The two Paddys Shuvlin and Gallagher, who open their Thunder Road Cafe, Ireland's first biker restaurant, on June 18, will both be easy riding on the day, as will Tony Carey, another partner in the theme eatery, while Michael Doherty, who owns the Harley Shop in Blessington street and who will open Europe's first Harley fashion shop in Temple Bar, will have his neon pink bike for the run.
Des MacEvaddy of Omega Air has two Harleys and the Fitzpatrick brothers, John from New York, and Paul, Patrick and Tony will be out in full force. Clodagh Kean is also planning to hightail it to Arklow for the run on the Harley Gerald gave her for her birthday. The recent bike lessons she took in Boca Raton, should make it a piece of cake.
David and Christina Doyle, just back from Spain, were in great form.
All the bikers are sponsored for the run and the proceeds will provide much needed funding to battle the disease which claims the life of over 700 Irishwomen a year.
